comfort food

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

I often tell people I love to eat. But there are certain foods that I eat that always make me feel full and contented. I can eat burger and fries but after a few hours I will be hungry again. I guess it’s the filipino in me. I cling to the diet I am used to even if I am now on another country with foods cooked very differently from what I grew up with. So anyways, here are the food that never fails to make my day.
RICE
I love plain rice. fried rice is a little too oily for my taste especially in the morning..

SOUP
soups from tinolang isda and nilagang baboy..sinigang is good too..noodle soup

VIAND
fried marinated pork, bistek, fried chicken, ulam ba cooked dried fish? hehe, vegetables mostly fried, adobong pusit, crabs and shrimp from time to time

DESSERT
chocolate cake, brownies, cookies, banana, and other fruits
I am so into filipino food with rice that it makes my hubby feel frustrated sometimes. I love the food he sometimes cooks for us it’s just that I don’t think they are filling. I always run to my rice cooker for a dose of rice. Imagine eating chili with rice? Or steak with plain rice instead of potatoes. Well, it’s me.

I want to forward this tag to all the people on my list who haven’t had this tag yet.

rambled thoughts

Got a call from my parents today. They asked if it’s okay to send money to my younger brother because he needs it for cholera shots. I thought it was an emergency the way they had to call me very early in the morning here. I told them they can spend their money however they want. It’s theirs. That we will always try to help them out if we can.Jay hopefully will start to work on a boat soon. I hope he will get good salary this time especially since his wife is pregnant. And too, the dollar is losing ground. They get paid in dollars.

I actually am not very happy with the way the dollar rate is falling against the peso. They say it will be good for the filipino government and the people in general. I don’t see it that way. Because even with the peso gaining ground, the economy there  is still the same. Probably worse than when I was there. Instead of products getting cheaper, they skyrocket. Their reason? High gas price. And when gas is high, everything goes up as well. Of course, the government says it is getting better. But the poor don’t feel it. They feel like everyday is a struggle to live, to survive.

There are a lot of filipino families who rely on family members working abroad. And if the exchange rate continues to plummet, it means more hardwork for filipinos abroad. I hope that the filipino government will find solutions to the economic problems afflicting the country. It will be a good thing if the time comes when filipinos don’t have to work abroad leaving their loved ones behind in hopes that they will give them a better future.

bored

I am hungry but I don’t want to eat. My bladder is full but I don’t want to go to the bathroom. My hair needs combed but I don’t wanna feel the cold on my back. I don’t want to use the hair dryer. Tonight is one of my crazy nights. My men are asleep but here I am wide awake. I probably will get sleepy in a little while when my son lets out his screaming fits. For now I will continue to be miserable just because I am lazy enough to do what I’m supposed to do. I sure am glad hubby keeps up with my craziness.
